What’s behind the roller door

Fort Knox Storage in Eltham is located next to the Karingal Yallock Creek and heritage listed gardens, in the old hat factory building.

Eltham customers can access storage units from 6am to 9pm, 365 days a year. Security includes movement sensors and 24 hour camera surveillance and individual door alarms on each storage unit. A feature for the locals is our subterranean storage, which is popular for storing valuables during the fire season. What’s more, we have trolleys, a walkie stacker and pallet jack that customers can use.

In addition, we have a temperature and humidity controlled wine cellar, with a large range of storage sizes.

We also sell moving boxes, packing supplies and wine storage boxes at low prices.

Im disappointed that I have to write this review, but I decided to, purely on principle. I wanted to store things at Fort Knox Eltham, I went onsite for a walk... read more around and spoke to a friendly woman (I), we discussed sizing and availability, I mentioned something specifically about my business that I thought was important - that I intend to store granulated chlorine and that it is on the dangerous goods schedule. I was told this wouldnt be a problem as long as it was in sealed containers (its the same kinda stuff on the shelf at Bunnings) With this information I went away to make up my mind, I decided later that day to purchase and went online to transact, I booked and paid a $28 deposit to secure my spot. I called the next day to discuss moving in and the materials I would be moving in, at this point I was informed that I cant store any chemicals; this is a completely reasonable point and to any observer may seem obvious, but remember, I had asked this specific point during my reconnaissance as I figured this would be the point of contention. We both laughed about it and I decided not to proceed, being a little cheeky I thought, oh well I better get my $28 deposit back then. I was then informed that the $28 deposit is non refundable; now $28 isnt exactly going to break the bank, but remember the first line, the principle of the matter was what irked me here. The person on the phone (K) informed me that she was unable to provide a refund despite us having just shared the journey where we could see that Fort Knox Eltham had provided incorrect information that had led to my buying decision. Now I know that the person on the phone might not have the authority to process a refund, but she could chose to escalate it to her manager who would have the authority, what she chose to do was fob me off, and that bothered me, because its not something I would expect of someone with moral character in a business setting. I gave that person a week to process a refund, to think on the matter and consider what they could do to make it right, but no refund has been forthcoming. This verbose review is a warning to all who would deal with Fort Knox, my experience is that the sales process is delightful, but once they have your money they will keep it, whether it was $28 or $2800 I feel the response would have been the same. Exercise caution.
