Christmas Traditions – Myer Christmas Windows
Christmas Traditions – Myer Christmas Windows written by Santa’s Little Helper from the Fort Knox Management Team.
Every year when Christmas rolls around – it seems to happen quicker and quicker every year – there are certain traditions that occur around this time.
Along with getting all the Christmas lights and decorations out of storage, (hopefully out of a Fort Knox Self Storage unit) putting up the Christmas tree and the carving of turkey, there is one tradition that is consistently great every year – the Myer Christmas Windows.
And with only weeks until the fat man in a red suit comes sliding down the chimney (or drain pipe), Myer have once again put on quite a show with it’s annual Christmas display.
Over 1 million locals and visitors flock to see the windows each year, a tradition which first began 58 years ago. Every year the theme of the windows is a heavily guarded secret and is only known to the team of men and women that work for up to six months of the year at an off site facility to put together the spectacle that is the Myer Christmas Windows.
Based this year on ‘Gingerbread Friends’ a Christmas themed children book by author, Jan Brett, the windows were unveiled to much fanfare on November 8. On site were an abseilling Santa and elves(down the front of Myer’s Bourke Street flagship store) and Myer Ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Lauren Phillips were also there to add some celebrity cred to the launch.
So if you’re in Melbourne anytime in the next few weeks, pop by the Myer Christmas Windows and have a look, they are sure to add a bit of Christmas delight to your day.
