Eltham Rural Group
The Eltham Rural Group is an organisation established by a lively group of women nearly sixty year’s ago. The group raises funds for local organisations and community services such as Riding for the Disabled, Special Schools, Senior Citizens and the local fire brigades. All work completed is on a volunteer basis and therefore all money raised is donated.
2016 was an incredible year for the Eltham Rural Group, who donated a record $27,360 to local charities and services and have $7,640 in reserve to cover any emergency that may arise. This is an incredible fete and some of the recipients included Banksia Palliative Care, Panton Hill Fire Brigade, Nillumbik Living and Learning, 1st Eltham Scout Group, and for the first time in 2016 they also donated to the Rotary Club of Eltham’s Aquabox program; a charity which provides lifesaving water tanks to areas affected by natural and manmade disasters.
With such a successful fundraising achievement last year, 2017 promises to be just as successful. The Eltham Rural Group membership is growing and after 62 years they are becoming a well known organisation within the community. Their initials ‘ERG’ imply that they are a ‘unit of energy’. Together they are a talented diverse group of local women who work together, having fun whilst raising money for local organisations and services. Every fund raising event for the Eltham Rural Group is a success, however Paddy’s Market remains their most profitable function closely followed by the Annual Golf Day, Jazz in the Afternoon and the Annual Luncheon.
This year in 2017 marks the 62nd anniversary of the Paddy’s Market. A vibrant and diverse market which includes stalls selling small indoor and outdoor furniture, herbs and fruit, home baked cakes, locally grown native plants, kids clothing amongst other things. Held annually on the first Saturday in May at the Eltham Scout Hall, the Paddy’s Market falls on the 6th of May. Make sure you get down and celebrate and support the brilliant work the ERG women are doing for the community and enjoy some homemade cake and a sausage sizzle.
